Precision Facades has been supporting the Novus – Foundations for Change charity for several years now in partnership with our client, Willmott Dixon.
With over 50 locations across England and Wales, Novus helps men, women and young people of all ages and abilities in prison settings develop the skills and confidence they need to improve their prospects of employability post-release and ultimately reduce reoffending.
Back in May, our team collaborated with Novus at HMP Thorn Cross on an idea to introduce modern methods of construction into prison education. We conducted a brick slip and pointing training day for learners, donating resources, time, staff and managers in the process. Fast-forward to August and we are pleased to reveal that the first of our participants officially commenced work at our Phase 2 Manchester College site.
Supported by our onsite team, Willmott Dixon and Novus, he has been working on a 23-meter scissor lift as well as learning to install cladding systems. He has settled into his new role well and is on his way to a successful career in construction. We are further looking forward to a second placement, starting onsite at Manchester College, this month.
Speaking of the collaboration between Precision Facades, Willmott Dixon and Novus, Nadine Parry, Regional Employer Account Manager at Novus says:
“Precision Facades has been working collaboratively with Novus at HMP Thorn Cross for a while now. They donated their resources, time, staff and managers to conduct training days with our learners completing our brickwork provision.
The aim of the training was to introduce modern methods of construction into prisons such as brick slips and pointing. Precision generously donated the materials for the training and for the tutors attending the training from other establishments.
We now have opportunities for our learners to work at The Manchester College phase 2 build offered by the team at Precision. Such training and employment opportunities play a key role in reducing reoffending and rehabilitation.”
Stephen Dermott, Director at Precision Facades adds:
This is a great scheme to be a part of and I’m glad Precision can help out. During my visit to Thorncross, it was apparent that the guys there where really interested in learning about the cladding systems available on the market, Corium being the main focal point.
Once we had demonstrated the install to the guys, they were away, trying to complete areas themselves. It was really positive. The guys that are currently onsite are trying their hands and assisting our skilled operatives and learning every day. Its great to see! Hopefully we can continue to add other operatives and continue to assist Novus in training and employment moving forward.
